Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about custom meat processing? Turk Brothers Custom Meats answers common questions about meat yields, cutting options, freezer storage, and bulk meat purchases to help you make informed decisions.
How much meat should I expect to take home after having a beef processed?
Your final take-home weight will be less than both the live weight and hanging weight of the animal. As a general example, hanging weight may be around 62% of the live weight, but the final amount of packaged meat will vary based on the animal, fat, trimming, bone-in versus boneless selections, and the cuts you choose. Your cutting instructions have a significant impact on the final yield.
What is the difference between live weight, hanging weight, and take-home weight?
Live weight is the weight of the animal before processing. Hanging weight is the weight after the hide, head, blood, hooves, and internal organs have been removed. Take-home weight is the final amount of cut and packaged meat you receive after aging, trimming, deboning, and processing.
